Closings Update

Posted by on February 2, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Pansies? Or are they just rational?

THIS JUST IN:

So, although Harvard undergrads get no mercy from administrators (read: we’re expected to journey to class amidst a weather-pocalypse (no more a snow-pocalypse because it’s effing raining out)), other Harvard affiliated persons have gotten more lucky. Libraries have closed, offices have closed, and a few classes have been canceled. Not bad, right?

Here’s the kicker. ALL CLASSES ARE CANCELED TODAY AT THE HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL.

Yeah, the future doctors get the day off and yet we undergrads are expected to trudge to our GenEd and Core classes. We’re not saving any lives here. In fact, we’re risking our own as we practically swim through the 6+in puddles of water and slush.

It’s a doozy out there. Has the College Administration not canceled classes with the hopes that the weather will produce bumped and broken students test subjects for the resting HMS students? Is this the plan? Conspiracy theorists back me up here.

Uh, it's today.

Harvard’s Official Inclement Weather Alert

Posted by on February 2, 2011 at 12:50 am

“** Inclement Weather Alert **

February 1, 2011

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is monitoring the ongoing winter storm. According to the latest forecasts, snow is expected to continue throughout today (Tuesday), with accumulations of up to 7 inches. After ceasing for a brief period overnight, snow is expected to resume in the early morning hours and continue through Wednesday evening. Total accumulations could reach up to 16 inches.

In light of the inclement weather, the FAS will implement the following plan, which applies to FAS personnel, including staff and faculty at Harvard College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Due to the unique nature of its operations, the Division of Continuing Education will communicate separately with its students, faculty and staff. The Central Administration and the other Harvard Schools will also separately disseminate plans that apply only to their employees.

* Tuesday (today): The FAS will operate Tuesday on a regular schedule and all classes will be held as normal. However, we recognize that school closures and commuting concerns may make it necessary for some employees to leave early. Managers are asked to exercise discretion in releasing employees this afternoon.

* Wednesday: FAS operations on Wednesday will be curtailed. Classes will be held as scheduled and all essential/critical personnel are expected to report to work as usual. This includes individuals, including teaching faculty, who are essential to supporting classes. All FAS faculty and staff who are not essential/critical are asked to remain home Wednesday, and to work from home if necessary/possible.

Your personal safety is the highest priority. If you are essential/critical, but cannot safely report to work on Wednesday or must leave work early on Tuesday, please contact your supervisor. Teaching faculty with classes scheduled for tomorrow who cannot safely commute to campus may cancel the scheduled class. We expect faculty to make every effort to make up the time while being mindful that we cannot accommodate classes meeting outside of their assigned time slots.

** Harvard College Libraries **

All HCL libraries will close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1.

On Wednesday, February 2, Lamont Library will be the only HCL library open, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., with essential personnel only. The Ask a Librarian service will be available during these hours.

Normal library hours will resume in all HCL libraries at 8 a.m. Thursday, February 3.”

So, basically we still have class tomorrow.

Posted by on March 23, 2010 at 12:06 am

At least it’s Cudi
And not some nineties hacks like
Chumbawamba, meh.

At least it’s light rain
and not some torrential crap.
Sorry New Jersey.

At least it’s HUDS food
and not the scraps the dog gets.
Oh. My b, it is.*

At least it’s Harvard
and not yo’ mama.
Funny? Nope, I’m so serious I’m not even counting syllables right now.

*Just kidding. We love you HUDS staff. Stay classy.
