Woodstock 1969 or Yardfest 2010?
Noice is excited. We’re so excited that were building blanket forts and playing with Super Soakers. That’s right, we’re turning into children. Why?
Because the CEB (College Events Board) just announced that they are looking to see who we want for this year’s Yardfest… about 6 months away. But were already freaking out, like majorly freaking out… because unlike last year’s distressingly vague “fill-in-the-blank” style poll they’ve actually given us a couple options. And the options are… A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN WE COULD HAVE IMAGINED. Especially given the Ratatat/Sara Bareilles combination of last year. No offense to those artists, but yeah, this is looking goooood. And since Girl Talk was epic fail we’ve had high hopes that the CEB would make up for that hot mess. Let’s not have Yardfest be another Yawnfest.
Here’s a link to the poll. This blogger’s faves from their list: Andrew Bird (impossible to get his tickets fast enough), Drake (crushworthy), Grizzly Bear, TVOTR, and Of Montreal. But don’t take our word for it, get together with some friends and vote for the ones you want to see! Read the full list of CEB suggestions after the jump!

Hello, world.
Sure, Harvard’s still working on picking its broke ass off the floor, but as a cutting-edge research university, some expectations that it’ll keep updating according to the internet’s modern standards remain despite a total endowment fail. But after browsing through some webpages affiliated with FAS, we… well, we really wish we hadn’t. Luckily, Noice did all the dirty work to save all the Harvard kiddies some cyber-aesthetic pain.
THE BEST
School of Engineering and Applied Sciences: This one’s a no-brainer, what with all the hackers that the SEAS has on demand. With an exhaustive menu on the homepage, the site lets any idiot find anything, anywhere from research opportunities for undergraduate research as well as a complete census of the school’s demographics (74% male–again, no surprise there). Take a peek at the course website of CS50, maybe the only undergraduate class that doesn’t use a crappy my.harvard iSite (and also the only course page that embedded an LOLcat applet last year).
Anthropology: Links to sweet interviews with awesome faculty! Cool header! Sans serif font! Very noice indeed.
Literature: Shocker, right? But entering the Lit site proves to be a candied orgasm for the eyes with rainbow books as the background (gay pride, anyone?). Not only that, the department proves it’s not just about lofty and obscure theory and academia, as shown by its extremely functional, minimalist menu on the bottom, linking visitors to the department’s degree requirements easily and its Ph.D. dissertations pompously. But after seeing the quality of the site, we’ll forgive them.
See the sites for sore eyes after the jump.

Noice loves poetry… and we love it even more when it gets randomly emailed to us (but not in that my-mom-won’t-stop-sending–me-inspirational-chain-mail kind of way). So imagine our delight when a couple beatniks set themselves to the task this week on Lev Open while lamenting the missing dining hall clock. We’d applaud…but uh, we’re already over quota.
FAS webmail’s 100 MB limit notwithstanding, there’s always room in our hearts for this kind of collective creativity.

This lady can SING.
This past Monday at the House of Blues, Regina Spektor reminded us why she continues to be so frickin’ awesome. When she wasn’t rocking out in Russian or using a chair as an instrument, her persona was remarkably child-like as she bobbed her head along to her music. While singing ”Laughing With,” “Human of the Year,” and “Wallet,” (songs from her new album, Far) we were surprised by how the audience was for the most part silent. Except for the two girls behind us who were incredibly tone deaf, everyone else realized that this was Regina and NO one could even try to compare. But when “That Time,” “Fidelity,” and “Folding Chair,” were blasted through the club, we all shrieked like middle schoolers at a Jonas Brothers concert.
Towards the end of the night, the audience felt as though Regina was well on our way to becoming our best friend and as she yelled out, “I love you guys too!” We might have taken it a little too close to heart. But, all of our mad-crazy-out-of-this-world-love multiplied tenfold after she rocked “Samson,” sang impromptu a cappella while the piano was facing “technical difficulties,” and played A SHOFAR (read: big ram horn that is played during the Jewish High Holidays) in honor of being in the middle Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Watch a video of Regina perform, after the jump!

After working long, grueling hours and enduring sleepless nights, the team of The Voice is proud to present to the world Noice, our daily blog about student life at Harvard (and sometimes other things). Noice exists to keep you informed, help you procrastinate, locate free food on campus, and learn more about the wild and fascinating place that is Harvard. We hope you’ll join us as we explore the unexplored, uncover what should probably remain covered, explain the unexplained, exploit what should be exploited — all while enjoying the occasional moving picture.
Over the next few months, you can expect Noice to grow and expand its content as well as provide you with more exciting forms of content and higher levels of ADD that Teh Internets calls for.
For all of you wondering about the print version of The Voice — keep an eye out for our first issue of the year in mid-October, as well as a brand new website! It’s gonna be hot.
If you have any suggestions, questions, comments, complaints, hate mail, fan mail, etcetera, please feel free to contact us at thehvoicemail[at]gmail[dot]com. Also email us if you’d like to join the dark side and blog for us. (Do it. We have cookies.)

Don’t be so crude! We’re Honoring Our Teachers.
What’s that you say? “Honor Our Teachers Profs” doesn’t make any sense? Stop trying to defy the logic and just play along. Here at Noice we don’t hate…we appreciate. And this week we really appreciate:

Enough to consider switching concentrations?
Professor Yukio Lippit
History of Art and Architecture
This prof, some may describe as an Asian Richard Gere, deserves some serious appreciation as a bright spot in Harvard’s faculty. This semester he’s teaching the Core Lit-Arts B class on Japanese Woodblock Prints (but you lucky History of Art and Architecture concentrators can look forward to HAA 188j or 287k in the Spring). When he’s not adding his face and wonderfully soothing lecture voice to an already attractive set of course materials, he’s busy researching and writing some stellar books. We like Yukio ’cause he’s notoriously accessible to his students and sincerely devoted to what he teaches. We also dig that he’s an alum too (class of ’93!). Mad props, sir, mad props.
This song pretty much says it all. We love our profs!
