RelationshipsFML: Meeting New People

Posted by on October 27, 2011 at 10:26 am

Hi all! You may know me as a prolific commenter on HarvardFML; this is my new and improved means of doling out relationship advice! Got a question you want to ask, or a situation you want thoughts and advice on? Email me at somedude.harvardfml@gmail.com, and watch this space for my answer! Today, I’m going to answer a question I was asked on HarvardFML and which has come up many times since:

I need to meet new people. How do I do [that]?

There are two parts that go into meeting new people: where to meet them, and how to meet them.

Where to meet them?

  • Pick up a new extracurricular. There are lots of groups on campus that don’t have an elaborate or selective process for new members. For instance, just show up on load-in day for any student theater production and help them build their set. I’ve met lots of new people that way. There are 20-25 productions each semester, so a new load-in is happening at least every week.
  • Go to a party on campus or at a nearby school. This is easier to do with a friend or two, but can be done solo as well. And there are a ton of nearby schools in Cambridge and Boston. Read the rest of this entry »

Come and Clay All Night!

Posted by on February 4, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Remember that old movie about some guy who got killed and then came back to steal four million dollars and hang out with Whoopi Goldberg? Yes we’re talking about that movie: Ghost. So, the point now is that you can replicate the experience tonight! Or at least the experience of doing pottery before Patrick Swayze dies in the movie (or in real life, for that matter).

The Office of the Arts, in an attempt to promote the almost nonexistent interest in arts (as everyone flocks to the hard sciences), and our perhaps slightly not very lively social “life”, is throwing a “Clay All Night” studio party tonight from 8.30 to 1, free for all undergraduate HUID carriers (which means for those non-Harvardians reading this post, you should go rob a Harvard undergraduate for his/her ID if you want to come).

So if you have nothing to do tonight or are seeking a last minute date location, you should come and Clay All Night! Get it? C(P)lay all night? Yes, the OFA is very punny.

You'll be doing this, except maybe not with Demi Moore. We sure hope you won't be doing this with Patrick Swayze (too soon?).

The BU Biddies Admit It!

Posted by on January 30, 2011 at 10:16 pm

OMG MOOSE!

Unless you have been living under a rock, are Amish, or were raised by wolves, you must be aware of the phenomenon that is Twitter and how it is taking the world by storm. Everyone from professional athletes to to acne-covered tweens is tweeting, but there is one particular account that caught our eye at the Voice.

The account name is “Harvard Hoochies” and the bio reads that the account holder(s) are “BU biddies, hooching and husband hunting at Harvard Final Clubs. We ward off RUHGs (random ugly Harvard girls)…frequently.”

One gem of a post reads, “when you slip a final club man your number, make sure it’s not on a piece of historical paper with their founders’ story#oopsydaisies” while another boasts, “Owl, ad, fly… All conquered last night”.

BU Biddies talking after a successful night of Final Club raging...

Party Fale, Involves Tasers

Posted by on October 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm

A party was busted at Yale and five students were arrested. The party was held at Elevate, a nightclub downtown, and the students were arrested for underage drinking. According to the Yale Daily News, “more than a dozen New Haven police officers and liquor agents raided the downtown nightclub where the event took place.”

According to the YDN article, it looks like there may have been some police brutality involved, and “according to interviews with about a dozen eye witnesses, one student was Tasered.”

Dang. Like Ke$ha said, “Until the po po shut us down….”
