Leverett House Teaches You How to Bunny

Posted by on January 30, 2011 at 6:05 pm

Leverett House released a new video a few days ago, titled “Teach Me How to Bunny.” It is unclear whether or not this will be the house’s Housing Day video, but the quality is impressive.

Looks like the other houses have some catching up to do as Housing Day approaches!

Freshmen Get Lampoon’d With Completely Inappropros Joke

Posted by on March 12, 2010 at 1:24 pm

We heard rumors that yesterday morning, some freshmen found themselves greeted by members of “Leverett House,” with housing day letters and Leverett t-shirts in hand. Except they weren’t members of Leverett House. And those weren’t actually Leverett’s housing day shirts.

Indeed, after some investigation, it looks like the pranksters were none other than members of the Harvard Lampoon. Surpriiiise. The prank caused much commotion throughout Leverett House after it was found that these fake Leverett t-shirts displayed an inappropriate joke connected with the 9/11 tragedy; an image of the Leverett Towers are printed on the shirts with the words “Lever Forget.” Below are photos of the shirt and fake housing day letter.

Um...something tells me this is not OK.

After the jump, an email that was sent to the Leverett community from its House Master, Howard Georgi. Read the rest of this entry »

This Week on LevOpen: [Insert Pun About Rabbits and Sex]

Posted by on February 1, 2010 at 6:25 pm

This week on the open_lists, one frustrated Leverettite addressed an issue that may point to the heart of student relations issues on campus (er…lack of “relations”, perhaps): WHY are the house condom boxes always empty?

Obvi not the Leverett hare.

Obvi not the Leverett hare.

Okay, in all seriousness, I realize sex is a taboo subject.

But given how wonderful sex can be and how rare it often is that the average Harvard undergraduate gets to enjoy it, I shudder at the thought of Leverites having no sex at all (or worse, unsafe sex) because a walk to UHS or CVS is such a hassle when you’re all hot and bothered.

Remember, a key component of effective sexual education is access to preventative materials, and the ability to talk openly about it through venues such as Lev Open.

So when someone fills the Condom Box, I hope he or she lets everyone know, and continues to do so on a regular basis.

Have fun y’all!

Best,
J. Click to read the responses

Weekend How-To: Hues Like A Hipster for Lev’s ’80s Dance

Posted by on October 22, 2009 at 12:48 pm

like a virgin

Follow these tips for '80s flair and you can be a boy toy too. Minus the making out with Britney thing.

Hand it to Leverett to make gyrating in a throng of sweaty freshmen a serious, sartorial affair. Advertised as one of the biggest Lev events of the year, HoCo co-chair Isaac Martinez ’10 advises people to dress up for its annual ’80s Dance and “expect a lot more enthusiasm.” Those looking to make a noice neon impression this weekend should take note of the following fashion pointers that’ll even make Madonna in her “Like a Virgin”-and-pointy-breasts era salivate.

Sweatbands.
Remember all those Richard Simmons workout videos from two decades ago? It was tacky, it was tasteless, and it serves as the perfect example of how your outfit should center around your hair accessory on Saturday night, not to mention that it should prove useful for wiping off the sweat you will rub off from the guy in the pink tights, leading us to…
Bright spandex. And by bright, we mean fucking radioactive rainbow. Bolder is better. We don’t know if we can find anymore alliterative phrases to drive this point deeper into the ground. Oh, wait–glaring garishness.
Hair that’s been battered and bullied. Can’t go wrong with teasing the crap out of your hair. Unless, of course, you’re Carrot-Top, in which case, touché–you’ve killed two birds with one stone.
Big glasses. Hey, you’re at Harvard; shouldn’t be too hard to find a pair lying around.
Consider a celebrity costume. Michael Jackson, pre-child molestation allegations. Madonna, pre-pre-divorce. Cyndi Lauper, pre…. well, in general. Go all out, and you might just find the Harry to your Sally on the dance floor.
Anything from American Apparel. Extra brownie points to whoever dons only the unitard.
Refer to the hipster sitting right next to you in lecture. Enough said.

Also, props goes out to Lev HoCo for a music video remake of the ’80s hit Jessie’s Girl, complete with procreating bunny. See the video and event details after the jump.

Introducing: The New Leverett Mural

Posted by on October 7, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Yesterday, Leverett House Master Howard Georgi (“Chief”) emailed the House, stating that the artist of the old Leverett mural, Jerald Webster, would come by to pick up his painting, which will hopefully be exhibited in an art museum. He also stated:

“We are delighted that Julia Rozier’s beautiful painting, ‘John W. Weeks Bridge in July’ will be the first student art to hang in this place of honor.”

And indeed, the old mural has been taken down and the new mural, painted by Julia Rozier ’10, is now up in the Leverett Dining Hall for all to see! Noice thinks it’s an exciting day for Leverett House. Read our featurette on the creation of this new painting here.

Brain Break Review: Leverett

Posted by on October 5, 2009 at 3:13 am

Brain Break. Every Harvard student is familiar with this almost-nightly event, which claims to provide us with a brief and tasty breather from our sometimes overwhelming workload. For some, it is social time to connect with friends to talk about the day or to just relax. For others, it is a chance to get a bite to eat before the long night of reading and writing ahead of them.

But, what is designed as a respite for the weary, a regular oasis in the desert of academia, actually turns out to be very little. What, in fact, does Brain Break offer to those seeking reprieve from the mountains of work bearing down on them and sustenance to keep going on the climb?
