Here at the Voice, we really appreciated all of the creativity we saw in the costume contest entries! We saw everything from hillbillies to crayons, but here are our faves!
In first place (insert drumroll here)…
THE TRAFFIC CONES & traffic director!

Traffic stoppers...literally
Winners include: Lindsay Kowal, Becca Millock, Molly O’Donnell, Mel Baskind, Catherine Coppinger, Courtney Diekema, and AJ Millet! Great job guys, we have never seen this done before, and we know that it took a lot of time, energy, and resourcefulness :)
In second place…

Yeah. That's all we can say.
Lauren Medina. The transformation from Kardashian lookalike to Mario/Ludacris/Gangsterman is honestly mind-blowing.
Honarable mention to Suzi Lu and friend for their initiative to use one of our suggestions from last issue’s article, “Costumes to Die For”. Not only did they utilize our idea, but they did so in a way that was more than just dressing from one color head-to-toe as we saw of lot of Crayons doing this Halloween.

Bad-ass crayons!
Again we want to thank everyone for their submissions because we got a great laugh out of them.
But really, thank you – it is input from readers like you that make the Voice the mouthpiece for the student opinion at Harvard!

My first night I ended up at the Kong with the Harvard Radcliffe Asian American Christian Fellowship with and because of my atheist best friend. (Need I point out the many levels of irony in that particular situation?)
While at the Kong, I met another kid with whom I exchanged numbers. However when I met up with him the next day, he introduced himself to the other prefrosh I was with as my ex-boyfriend from 6th grade. Needless to say, I found this a little strange. I somehow ended up spending the rest of the night with him and his friend from high school while they talked about their classmate who founded a porn company, beer pong, and their secret rating system for hot girls.
The next day, I had no intention of seeing the kid again, but ran into him at an Asian bbq, where a well-meaning upperclassman asked if we were dating. Awk. He and his friend from high school ended up hanging out with some of my friends that night. He passed the time taking pictures of me from across the room and shouting at me, “Woman! You’re sleeping on the couch tonight!” I was incredibly skeeved out to the point where I considered going to Yale. Fortunately for me, my horrifying memories of Bulldog Days were much stronger than my creeptastic ones of Harvard Prefrosh, so I did, in fact, end up at this illustrious institution.
Coda: One year later, I’m not only friends with the (former) creeper kid, but dating his friend from high school. So, summary of prefrosh weekend: Atheist best friend takes me to Christian fellowship takes me to disreputable drinking/eating establishment where I meet boy who tells people we’re dating who then introduces me to boy I actually end up dating (who, incidentally, is Jewish).

In the upcoming film “Get Him to the Greek” starring Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, and Rose Bryne (just to name a few), a Hollywood producer is forced to get a rock legend out to L.A. for a comeback show. The movie is produced by Judd Apatow, the man behind “40 Year Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up,” meaning the movie will be hilarious. Jonah Hill’s character is given the mission of escorting the uncooperative rock star (Brand) to L.A., while Brand is mostly focused on re-earning the love of Rose Byrne’s character. Ultimately though, Hill must get Brand to the infamous Greek Theater in L.A. and has to go through as many outrageous obstacles as you can imagine.

If you go here and vote you can not only get in on a free screening of the movie but get the CAST TO COME TO HARVARD! The Voice and Universal Pictures are spearheading this movement and we would love nothing more to have these amazingly talented actors and actresses in our midst. The screening will take place on 4/18/10, and with enough votes you can expect to have a bunch of super famous/awesome people walking around campus. So go on and vote people! This is bound to be the funniest movie of 2010 coming from Apatow–why not make sure they come here to show off?

December 2009 Issue

Our lucky makeover winner is all smiles!
At the kickoff of Reading Period and winter formal season, few things are as refreshing and motivating than a thorough pampering session. Fresh snow on the ground beckons for a fresh look for ourselves, but as college students, money and time aren’t exactly working in our favor to renew our bodies and spirits.
That’s where our December Makeover Contest, promising a free full makeover at Carriage House Salon in Harvard Square, fit in. Nominations poured in for cosmetically clueless pals and gorgeous gals hidden behind sweatshirts and thick glasses, but none melted our hearts as much as Nora Ali’s earnest plea on behalf of her friend Elaine Chen ’11. We had to help this girl out. Read all about the transformation after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »
