Frappuccino Happy Hour

Posted by on May 8, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Ladies and gents, it’s that time of the year again. No, I’m not taking about finals period (when the only sleeping around you do is in Lamont, and the only thing that goes down is your GPA #butreally).

From May 6th to May 15th (next Sunday), all local Starbucks stores will hold their Frappuccino Happy (Two) Hour(s) from 3pm – 5pm. During this time, get your favorite blended drinks at half-price!

In addition, Starbucks is also bringing back two coconut-flavored drinks for the summer: The Mocha Coconut Frappuchino and the Coconut Creme Frappuchino. I don’t know what the difference is except for the varying levels of sugar and sugary syrup, but you feel free to explore!

Everybody, let’s get fat! As if that’s not the natural by-product of Reading/Finals Period already.

RelationshipsFML: The First Date

Posted by on February 18, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Hi all! You may know me as a prolific commenter on HarvardFML; this is my new and improved means of doling out relationship advice! Got a question you want to ask, or a situation you want thoughts and advice on? Email me at somedude.harvardfml@gmail.com, and watch this space for my answer! DunsterDiver asks,

I’ve had a crush on this girl for a while, and I think I’m going to ask her out. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a first date. What should I plan?

Well, let’s think about the purpose of this first date. It is not to spend time with this girl. It is to get her to want to spend more time with you. If she says yes when you ask, presumably she’s at least a little interested; the first date needs to grow that interest, so you’ll get to spend more time with her in the future.

The pitch: As I’ve said in past posts, don’t ask, tell. “Let’s go get coffee” is better than “Would you like to get some coffee with me?” The former projects confidence and command; the latter is more supplicant and approval-seeking. It’s subtle, but since this is your first overtly romantic interaction, it’s worth setting a strong tone.

The location: The ideal first date is at a cafe or coffee house. It’s a casual afternoon break, not a sit-down meal. Any of the tons of little cafes near Harvard Square would work well. Tealuxe, L.A. Burdick, Crema Cafe, Cafe Pamplona, even Starbucks or Au Bon Pain, and there are many more besides.

Why a coffee date and not a sit-down meal? Read the rest of this entry »

How To Survive Finals Week

Posted by on May 4, 2010 at 10:52 pm

UPDATE! (May 6th): The Klondike Bars will be served on Friday, May 7th, from 2pm to 3pm instead. Reason: shitty Cambridge weather, as always.

Well, not really. But these food deals will certainly lessen the pain!

- ON CAMPUS -

Brought to us by the Common Spaces Committee. Odd name? Maybe. But it’s still free food!

Wednesday: KETTLE CORN from 12:30pm-3:00pm outside Lehman Hall (the ART is also presenting a preview of a new play, Johnny Baseball, at 12:30pm). It’s like killing two birds with one stone! You can pretend to look artsy while devouring your free corn.

Thursday: KLONDIKE BARS from 2:00pm-3:00pm at the Gazebo outside Grays Hall. Bonus: A prime view of the colorful chairs and newly installed Wetu nearby in the Old Yard.

- OFF CAMPUS -

Between May 7 and May 16, head over to any Starbucks store between 3 and 5 p.m. and get a Frappuccino blended beverage at half price!

Happy eating and drinking! Just don’t put the blame on us after you step on that weighing scale.

Diary of A Lamonster

Posted by on October 13, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Noice presents the first installment of its “Diary of A…” series.

lamonster12:45 a.m. – I think I have had at least twelve cups of coffee and successfully checked my Facebook more than I have showered this week in the span of an hour. I had to move out of the café because there was this study group there talking about how they found Zimbabwean money in their pockets this morning and then all I could think about was Zimbabwe and realized that, that had nothing to do with a paper on Virginia Woolfe. So, now I’m sneaking this cup of coffee upstairs.

1:17 a.m. – Oh my God, I swear the chairs on the third floor are laced with Ambien. I immediately nod off when I sit down in them. This is not going to work. Coffee I.V. anyone? Invent that. This is Harvard damn it. It’s times like these where I can’t decide if I should just go watch eight hours straight of A&E’s Intervention to feel better about my life in that I’m not snorting cocaine off of an elephant’s tusk or simply get into the zone and do some actual work. There is a kid across from me right now with a blanket and pillow. He’s in here for the long haul. I think I see food in his bag. Real breakfast of champions right there.
