IvyGate Interviews the Harvard Hoochies

Posted by on April 7, 2011 at 11:54 am

The “Harvard Hoochies” are capitalizing on their hoochiness with everyone they can. In a new interview with IvyGate, the girls reveal their lexicon, defining such terms as NARP, TFCM, and Zuckerbee. If you are unaware as to what the Harvard Hoochies are, “they are self-proclaimed wannabe-housewives and BU biddies who spend five days out their week hooching and husband hunting in Harvard Square,” writes IvyGate.

If you missed The Voice’s interview with them check it out here.

College Board Student Info Security Leak

Posted by on April 3, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Guys. The College Board’s Reign of Terror over our lives Will Never End.

Legit. A year or more after each of us has finished up PSATs, SATs, SAT Subject Tests and APs, the College Board again rears its ugly head.* This time, however, it’s giving away our full name and e-mail addresses to phishing corporations!

Epsilon, the vendor that sends out e-mail from the College Board to us from the day we first sign up for the PSAT, had a massive security breach resulting in unauthorized entry into their system. See the full e-mail I received from the College Board below:

_______________________________________________________________________

We have been informed by Epsilon, the vendor that sends email to you on our behalf, that your e-mail address may have been exposed by unauthorized entry into their system.

This will be you, forever. (educatencare.com)

Epsilon has assured us that the only information that may have been obtained was your first and last name and e-mail address. REST ASSURED THAT THIS VENDOR DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER MORE SENSITIVE INFORMATION SUCH AS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR CREDIT CARD DATA.

Please note, it is possible you may receive spam e-mail messages as a result. We want to urge you to be cautious when opening links or attachments from unknown third parties.

In keeping with standard security practices, the College Board will never ask you to provide or confirm any information, including credit card numbers, unless you are on a secure College Board site.

Epsilon has reported this incident to, and is working with, the appropriate authorities.

We regret this has taken place and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We take your privacy very seriously, and we will continue to work diligently to protect your personal information.

Sincerely,

The College Board

Other corporations affected by the Epsilon breach include US Bank, JP Morgan Chase, McKinsey & Company, Capital One and New York & Company.

On the bright side, I look forward to the impending inundation of my inbox of e-mails from Nigerian oil tycoons telling me how sexy my AP Euro score is.

*In doing research for this article, I also learned that the Long Arm of the College Board doesn’t actually end with college. The College Board licenses out administration (though not ownership) of the SAT to the Educational Testing Service, which also puts out the Graduate Record Exam. Yet another reason not to go to grad school.

Free Screening of “No Strings Attached”

Posted by on April 2, 2011 at 2:18 pm

The College Events Board is offering a free screening of “No Strings Attached” this Sunday, April 3rd, at the Science Center Hall B. Door opens at 7:45pm until capacity (about 400 seats) is reached.

The movie, which features Ashton Kutcher, aka Mr. Demi Moore, and Harvard alumnae and Oscar winner Natalie Portman in the lead roles, was released in late January of this year, and grossed over US$70 million. Not bad for a chick flick with an estimated budget of $25 million.

The official synopsis goes: “A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more.” (IMDB) Sounds familiar? If this describes your social life at Harvard, go see the movie. If it doesn’t, well, come anyway for the unreasonably attractive stars. (Even though Kutcher’s acting ability leaves much to be desired.)

Also, it was rated R for “strong sexual content.” I’m just saying.

RSVP on the Facebook event. “Like” the CEB on Facebook for dibs on future events, including Yardfest.

Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld Trades in Tiger Daughter Stripes for Crimson

Posted by on April 1, 2011 at 2:57 pm

IMPORTANT UPDATE: We’ve learned that Chua-Rubenfeld, according to her Facebook page, has actually not yet decided between Harvard and Yale. C’mon, Sophia? How is this even a choice?

———————————————————————————————–

Yep.

Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld, daughter of Amy Chua, author of the controversial book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, will reportedly be joining us next year as a member of the Harvard College Class of 2015.

Chua-Rubenfeld’s acceptance comes in the aftermath of a media frenzy surrounding her mother, a Yale Law Professor’s, first literary endeavor, which was widely criticized for its exposition of Chua’s stringent parenting style, which notably included such tenets as forbidding her daughters to attend sleepovers and parties, and to receive less than As on report cards.

The new pre-frosh, an accomplished pianist who performed at Carnegie Hall at age 14, largely defended her mother’s book in a January 18 op-ed in the New York Post, entitled “Why I love my strict Chinese mom,” wherein she lauded her parent for always demanding that she exert her utmost: “To me, it’s not about achievement or self-gratification. It’s about knowing that you’ve pushed yourself body and mind, to the limits of your potential.”

Oh word? Harvard College Admissions Office accepts an overachieving high school senior who enjoys masochism? Tiger Mom or not, hey Sophia, you’ll fit right in.

Yale Under Federal Investigation

Posted by on April 1, 2011 at 11:42 am

The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights is currently investigating Yale University after a complaint in response to Title IX was filed by 12 women and 4 men regarding “a hostile sexual environment.” Slate reports that, “This environment limits ‘women’s equal access to educational opportunities,’…The 16 signatories have been discussing the possibility of filing a complaint since December of 2010, but Yale’s lack of response to an incident in which men from the DKE fraternity chanted: “No means yes! Yes means anal!” outside of freshman dorms set the wheels in motion.”

Well Yale, looks like you’re really in the doghouse now.  #FALE
