Party Fale, Involves Tasers

Posted by on October 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm

A party was busted at Yale and five students were arrested. The party was held at Elevate, a nightclub downtown, and the students were arrested for underage drinking. According to the Yale Daily News, “more than a dozen New Haven police officers and liquor agents raided the downtown nightclub where the event took place.”

According to the YDN article, it looks like there may have been some police brutality involved, and “according to interviews with about a dozen eye witnesses, one student was Tasered.”

Dang. Like Ke$ha said, “Until the po po shut us down….”

Harvardian Faces Deportation

Posted by on June 14, 2010 at 12:00 am

Eric Balderas ’13 was four years old when he crossed the border. He was detained at a Texas airport this week and, according to the Boston Globe, is currently facing deportation to Mexico.

On Monday, he was detained when he tried to board a plane Boston (where he planned on doing research over the summer). Eric said he had lost his Mexican passport and instead tried to board using his Harvard ID. He was able to board a plane the next day but he awaits a trial in front of an immigration judge.

The Globe notes that our fellow Harvardian was arrested a year after Drew Gilpin Faust, Harvard president, urged Congress to support the Dream Act, which would allow immigrant youths to apply for residency (it is a six-year-long conditional path to citizenship after they have completed two years of higher education toward a degree or completed two years of military service). Working off this angle a friend of Eric made a Facebook Support page urging immigration officials to let Eric stay in the only place he can really call home; the page is justly titled Keep Eric Home.

Or party even harder…
Either way I’m screwed.

Oops, We’re Creepy Again…

Posted by on March 7, 2010 at 11:08 pm

Does Harvard seriously need yet another creepy website? Don’t we foster enough stalking behavior with Isawyouharvard!? Do we really need to “pass notes” now too?! Last time I checked, this was Harvard, not the second grade.

The newest site to hit the big Crimson is Harvard Note Pass. It is an exclusive chat service for Harvard students. You log on and then it enables you to chat with others in your large lecture class.

One: aren’t you supposed to be paying attention?! And two: if that really cute boy wanted to talk to you, you’d have his number or at least be facebook friends—don’t be creepy and start up a convo in the middle of Ec10!

So what do we think? Yay or Nay?

Midterm Haiku

Posted by on March 7, 2010 at 5:46 pm

What I really hate
the time that is very near
Midterms, they are here.

The parties mock me
as I sit and study hard
all fucking weekend.

Do I study some more
or accept my fate and
join the fiesta!?

It’s Pancake Day!

Posted by on February 23, 2010 at 11:28 pm

When I realized what today was, my heart skipped a beat. NATIONAL PANCAKE DAY aka the day IHOP gives away a free short stack (3 pancakes) to anyone that enters their doors. Could it possibly be true? Could fluffy and syrupy goodness be mine for free? And to top it all off could I help a good cause in the process of feasting?

My roommate and I braved the bitter cold with thoughts of pancake and batter dancing in our heads. This year, IHOP picked the Children’s Miracle Network to support. So, after placing our pancake order we made a small donation to help save some of the millions of kids overcome with illness. This act makes us feel better about shoveling food into our mouth, after having already eaten a rather large dinner.

But with a wait of over an hour and being assigned ridiculous names (we were “Brad Pitt party of two”), the luke-warm, undercooked pancakes weren’t worth it. So I’m sorry, but even with the philanthropic goals in mind, IHOP’s free Pancake Day has nothing on Denny’s free grandslams (mmmm bacon bacon bacon).
