“** Inclement Weather Alert **

February 1, 2011

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is monitoring the ongoing winter storm. According to the latest forecasts, snow is expected to continue throughout today (Tuesday), with accumulations of up to 7 inches. After ceasing for a brief period overnight, snow is expected to resume in the early morning hours and continue through Wednesday evening. Total accumulations could reach up to 16 inches.

In light of the inclement weather, the FAS will implement the following plan, which applies to FAS personnel, including staff and faculty at Harvard College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Due to the unique nature of its operations, the Division of Continuing Education will communicate separately with its students, faculty and staff. The Central Administration and the other Harvard Schools will also separately disseminate plans that apply only to their employees.

* Tuesday (today): The FAS will operate Tuesday on a regular schedule and all classes will be held as normal. However, we recognize that school closures and commuting concerns may make it necessary for some employees to leave early. Managers are asked to exercise discretion in releasing employees this afternoon.

* Wednesday: FAS operations on Wednesday will be curtailed. Classes will be held as scheduled and all essential/critical personnel are expected to report to work as usual. This includes individuals, including teaching faculty, who are essential to supporting classes. All FAS faculty and staff who are not essential/critical are asked to remain home Wednesday, and to work from home if necessary/possible.

Your personal safety is the highest priority. If you are essential/critical, but cannot safely report to work on Wednesday or must leave work early on Tuesday, please contact your supervisor. Teaching faculty with classes scheduled for tomorrow who cannot safely commute to campus may cancel the scheduled class. We expect faculty to make every effort to make up the time while being mindful that we cannot accommodate classes meeting outside of their assigned time slots.

** Harvard College Libraries **

All HCL libraries will close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1.

On Wednesday, February 2, Lamont Library will be the only HCL library open, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., with essential personnel only. The Ask a Librarian service will be available during these hours.

Normal library hours will resume in all HCL libraries at 8 a.m. Thursday, February 3.”

So, basically we still have class tomorrow.
