UPDATE! (May 6th): The Klondike Bars will be served on Friday, May 7th, from 2pm to 3pm instead. Reason: shitty Cambridge weather, as always.
Well, not really. But these food deals will certainly lessen the pain!
- ON CAMPUS -
Brought to us by the Common Spaces Committee. Odd name? Maybe. But it’s still free food!
Wednesday: KETTLE CORN from 12:30pm-3:00pm outside Lehman Hall (the ART is also presenting a preview of a new play, Johnny Baseball, at 12:30pm). It’s like killing two birds with one stone! You can pretend to look artsy while devouring your free corn.
Thursday: KLONDIKE BARS from 2:00pm-3:00pm at the Gazebo outside Grays Hall. Bonus: A prime view of the colorful chairs and newly installed Wetu nearby in the Old Yard.
- OFF CAMPUS -
Between May 7 and May 16, head over to any Starbucks store between 3 and 5 p.m. and get a Frappuccino blended beverage at half price!
Happy eating and drinking! Just don’t put the blame on us after you step on that weighing scale.
As I told my junior gal pal over GChat that I was going to the Spee tonight for “a book reading,” she was flabbergasted. The Spee? Book? Read? What universe are we living in that these three words are used in the same sentence? Who would have thought that one day I would go to a final club to read a book? I was going to ask my gay best friend, my Facebook “wife” as we like to call him, to accompany me. But he passed up the opportunity to be a guest of a final club in favor of a nap. To be honest, I was yearning for a conversation within the confinement of a Final Club that involves more vocabulary than “hey, wassup” and “imsofuckingdrunk!!” On that count, the event delivered beautifully. Big words were verbalized and intelligent questions asked. I was impressed.
Also, I might have been (slightly) intrigued by the “drinks provided” promise. It’s never too early to pre-game a formal. But that is beside the point.

If there is one thing to make schooling in New Haven slightly more attractive, THIS is it. (Image courtesy of Google Images)
New York Magazine reported yesterday that the 32-year-old actor, who recently enrolled in the English PhD program at Yale University, “hopes to become a Teaching Assistant” once the new semester rolls around. Let us all take a moment and contemplate the meaning of this:
- We will actually go to section.
- We will actually enjoy section.
- We will take in every word that comes out of that beautifully crafted mouth. In less creepy terms, we will pay attention.
- Lena Chen and her much publicized affair with her TF might not seem like such a bad idea.
Darn. For a second there, I regretted turning down Yale last April. But then again, maybe even James Franco cannot make the possibility of murder less scary. And it’s Yale. Still, it is time Harvard stepped up its game. May I suggest this guy?
Perhaps the greatest part of the sermon is hearing Reverend Page read aloud some of the embarrassing and outrageous posts from Harvard FML. Yet, he also explores with a critical eye the nature and the “disturbing” mentality that the website fosters, warning against the kind of cynical reduction which the three letters, “FML” may propose.
“Expressing frustration through FML might work, instead of just saying ‘don’t worry, be happy’…but is it ideal? Is that the way we should cope with the bumps of our life?” Page asks. “Everytime something bad happens you shrug it off with the phrase, ‘F my life.’”
Reverend Page strikes a chord in every Harvard student’s heart when he warns against seeing the world “through FML glasses.”
“You turn a written assignment, which might be an opportunity for learning and expanding your horizons, into a burden,” he says. “You take the complex world of relationships into the simple calculus of sex.”
Yet, Harvard FML does seem to have some redeeming qualities. Page explores some of the more serious FML posts that express deep pain, the ones that use FML as “a coping mechanism,” making light of difficult situations “so that others may see.” Read the rest of this entry »
Eliot House held a special outdoor celebratory barbecue fest in honor of Anna and Lino, the outgoing House Masters. Eliotites donned t-shirts in honor of the rockstar House Masters while enjoying food and watching performances by student bands and musicians.
Here is a video of the Eliot House tutors performing a rap in honor of Lino and Anna.
Is the departure of Lino and Anna the end of an Eliot era? Probably. Will the new House Masters live up to their names? Probably not.
