[VES] Concentration, Concentration is the Game…

Starving Artist = Total Myth. Besides, there's pizza.
VES? What’s VES? Well according to their website, they are “the curricular home of a broad range of studio arts and more theoretical studies.” It’s the oft-maligned and sometimes under-appreciated Visual Arts (film/photo/studio/animation/etc.) department of Harvard University. For some of you, this idea is making you tingle. You might be going “Wait, what? You can make art at Harvard of all places? I, I don’t have to sell my soul to Mankiw?” Yes, honey. Yes, you can. But… there’s a catch!
The application to become a VES concentrator is due tomorrow in Carpenter Center 105.
But how will I ever decide the course of the rest of my life/career/time at harvard in just a few hours? Read the answer, after the jump!
Take it from this blogger, you don’t have to. The application is just for prospective VES students to be approved; it’s not a legally binding contract. You can back out, you can change your mind, you can even change it back, or change it back again.
To all you Artsy Fartsy VES (possibly) concentrating sophomores:
You have approximately 15 minutes to drop by the Sert Gallery on the third floor of the Carpenter Center for the last concentration info-sesh before applications are due TOMORROW. (Cue threatening, intense string music and thunderclaps). Kinda last minute, sorry. But in case you can’t make it, here’s what you missed:
- The chance to talk to talk to Paula Soares, Manager of Academic Programs for VES.
- A butt-ton of free pizza… though if memory serves me right it was all thin crust (some people are into that, I guess).
- Some important forms and pamphlet things which you can access here and here and here.
- A really awkward room filled with shuffling, name-tagged VES people.
- Did I already mention the free pizza?
- Yeah I already mentioned the pizza.
At any rate, you didn’t miss all that much and if you have any desperate, last-minute concerns, get in touch with your academic adviser or Paula Soares at soares@fas.harvard.edu(she was pretty friendly, and she said I had a nice name. +10 points!).
Happy concentrating!
